Problem
The Payne Center for Social Justice, a research institution dedicated to addressing systemic discrimination and injustice faced by Black Americans and marginalized groups, believed the existing branding and communication materials did not effectively convey the center’s mission and values. There was a need for a stronger brand identity to resonate with their target audience.
SOLUTION
To address these challenges, The Payne Center for Social Justice embarked on a comprehensive branding and marketing initiative. The following strategies were implemented:
- Brand Strategy: A new brand strategy was developed to clearly define the center's mission, values, and goals. This strategy emphasized the importance of centering the voices and experiences of those directly impacted by systemic discrimination and injustice.
- Brand Design: A fresh and compelling brand identity was created to reflect the center's commitment to social justice. This included a new logo, color palette, and typography that conveyed a sense of purpose and inclusivity.
- Marketing Collateral: A suite of marketing materials was designed to effectively communicate the center's research findings, events, and initiatives. This included brochures, flyers, and digital content that highlighted the impact of their work.
- Exhibits: The center developed interactive exhibits to showcase its research findings and engage with the community. These exhibits were designed to educate and inspire visitors about the issues of systemic discrimination and the importance of social justice.
- Swag for Events: The center created branded merchandise such as writing journals, tumblers, and lapel pins to distribute at events and conferences. This not only increased brand visibility but also served as a way to promote their mission.
RESULT
The implementation of the branding and marketing initiatives had a significant positive impact on The Payne Center for Social Justice:
Increased Visibility: The center’s new brand identity and marketing materials helped raise its visibility in the public policy research community. They began to receive more attention from donors, partners, and media outlets.
Improved Engagement: The interactive exhibits and engaging marketing collateral allowed the center to connect with a broader audience, including policymakers, academics, and the general public. This led to increased engagement and support for their research initiatives.
Enhanced Impact: With a stronger brand presence, The Payne Center was better positioned to influence policy change and eliminate systemic barriers. They were able to leverage their research to advocate for meaningful social justice reforms.
Positive Feedback: The new branding and marketing materials received positive feedback from stakeholders, reinforcing the center’s commitment to its mission. It also helped create a sense of unity and purpose among staff and supporters.
